Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

single-moms-merry-christmasI really hope you have all managed to avoid a nervous breakdown as the Holidays  near and the year ends.  During all the hustle and bustle try to remember the TRUE meaning of Christmas.  Embrace what you have, and forget what you don’t.  It’s December 15th and I have still managed to stay semi-sane.  I am so grateful for all that I have, and for all the wonderful people in my life.  Oh, that reminds me of a quote:  “Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things only hoped for.” -Epicurus.  I hope you all get to spend the holidays with the people you love.  Try to remember those in the armed forces that can’t be with their family.

I can not believe it is going to be 2010!!  It doesnt seem real.  I swear it hasn’t been 13 years since I graduated High School!  I have never been one to make New Year’s Resolutions.  It looks more like a to do list (which is the last thing I need) and ends up being the things I didnt do list.  It sets me up for disappointment.  The New Year is like a clean slate, new beginning.

To Do List

To Do List

By not making a “to-do” list, the things I do end up accomplishing just seem like a bonus for me.  For instance, in 2009 I quit smoking AND started running.  I completed an 8k and 5k race this year, in pretty good times I might add.  I’ve really worked hard at making time for myself.

Ok, so, that sums up many years of thinking on the subject.  This has worked for me.  Maybe some of you need that “to-do” list, we can call them Goals.  I believe Goals are important, especially for single moms.  Happy moms equals Happy Family!  So here are some Goals for the New Year!

  • Cut back or kick out your  ”Toxic” Behavior (smoking, drinking, negative thoughts and attitude, etc.)
  • Get your heart rate going (park farther away, take the stairs, walk, pop in a yoga video)
  • Eat Better (more fruits and vegies, less fried food, less sweets, less soda)
  • Find a Hobby (writing, painting, reading, singing, sewing, etc)
  • Volunteer (get the family involved and give your time to those in need.  My family and I bake cookies for our troops, if you are interested I have an address, I know they would never get too many cookies)
  • Take more Pictures (I really wish I would have taken more pictures of family and friends growing up. Try to  bring your camera wherever you go.
  • Love Yourself (I struggle with this on a yearly basis, I have body image issues, self esteem issues..yada yada, this isn’t just for teenagers.  Try to love yourself by first taking care of yourself.)
  • Forgive Someone and let go (Have you held a grudge?  It’s time to let it go and Forgive)

Everyone please have a Wonderful Holiday and Happy New Year!  God Bless you all!

I have founded a nonprofit that helps single parent families. We assist with certain bills and at Christmas we adopt families to try and help these parents give their kids a good Christmas.

We also raise funds fr families that have suffered the loss of a child.

I do not know if you would like to exchange links or not but it is possible that some of your readers may live in our assistance area and I know that our clients could benefit from reading your blog! It is always helpful to talk/read about others with the same life situation as yourself!
